Jamie Morris : Scandinavia Trip Part 1: Copenhagen, Denmark : Jamie & Kristin in Copenhagen

Scandinavia Trip Part 1: Copenhagen, Denmark

My vacation begins with a flight delay. Because of weather in NYC, I ended up missing a connecting flight and spending the most of the day Saturday in an airport. I arrived in Copenhagen 9 hours late and finally met up with my friend Kristin at the Axel Hotel Guldsmeden, which was a really nice place with a great chef who cooked us a personal meal. On Sunday, I went to Tivoli, a famous amusement park in the center of town. Sunday was also the day of the historic USA vs Brazil Confederations Cup Final and I was looking for a place to watch the game. While stolling around the park, I met the family of Benny Feilhaber, one of the USA players. The funny thing was that they are actually Brazilian, but they moved to the USA when he was a kid, so that's why he plays for the US team. I ended up watching the game with them in an Irish pub later that night. I spent the next couple of days walking around Copenhagen, visiting the shops, restaurants, bars, and parks. There are not a lot of "attractions" in Copenhagen but the city is okay. The best thing about it is that it's compact and walkable. It's very expensive though.

Here are the photos from the trip.

Jamie Morris : Cirque Berzerk / Cinespia / Hollywood Bowl : Jamie & Melissa in Downtown LA

Cirque Berzerk / Cinespia / Hollywood Bowl

I've spent that past week hosting and hanging out with Melissa from France. On Thursday, we went downtown to see Cirque Berzerk, a circus for adults featuring acrobatics, scary clowns, burlesque dancers, and lots of other bizarre things. It was a great show, but unfortunately Melissa was a little jetlagged and slept through some of it. Awww. On Saturday night, we went to the cemetery to see The Graduate which was excellent. I'm actually not sure I had ever seen the film before. And on Sunday, we headed to opening weekend at the Hollywood Bowl for the KCRW World Music Festival show featuring Femi Kuti & The Positive Force, Santigold, and Raphael Saadiq. A lot of food from Bay Cities was eaten and a lot of wine was drunk. I'm pretty sure it was a great show, but the details are fuzzy. Now that all my guests are gone, I need to quickly get ready for my Scandinavia trip. I'm starting my trip to Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Iceland on Friday morning!

Jamie Morris : Au Revoir Simone / Cemetery Movie / Curling Lessons : The Green Fairy Speaks to Jamie & Vanessa
The Green Fairy Speaks to Jamie & Vanessa
Au Revoir Simone / Cemetery Movie / Curling Lessons

Hotel Jamie is in full swing. For the past week and a half I've been hosting Stephanie from Louisville, Kentucky and we've been having a blast. Besides eating lots of good food and drinking lots of tasty beverages (requirements for staying with me), we also went to a show at the El Rey and saw Au Revoir Simone peform with The Antlers and Princeton, and on Saturday night saw Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Stephanie checked out today and now I await my next victim...err...couchsurfer... from France!

On Sunday, Dave and I went to the Valley Ice Center and took a 3-hour Learn How To Curl lesson. Neither of us knew anything about curling. We didn't even know the rules, but thought it would be fun to try. The class ended up being a lot of fun. After scaring us half to death about the risks of falling on the ice and getting a concussion, we got on the ice and started from the very basics. We learned how to slide the 42-pound stones across the ice, we learned how to sweep, and we learned the rules of the game. Unfortunately I'm going to miss the next and final class because I'll be traveling in Scandinavia, but hopefully I'll be able to try it again in the summer or fall.

Jamie Morris : Big Willie's Burlesque / Venice Carnavale / Champagne Tasting : Gabi, Zouzzy, and Jamie @ Venice Beach

Big Willie's Burlesque / Venice Carnavale / Champagne Tasting

Another eventful weekend. This time in LA. On Thursday night, I went to The Edison for Happy Hour and Big Willie's Burlesque Show with some Couchsurfing pals. The Big Willie show was pretty cool... a live band playing with a dancer coming out every now and then. The music is good. Willie is funny. But the show could use a few more dancers. On Friday night, I did a little shopping at the James Perse sample sale that my pal Alex invited me to since she's an employee. I got some comfy cool shirts for way less than they'd cost in the store. On Saturday, I went to Venice Beach for the annual Venice Carnavale. I was not impressed. The carnival was a half-block long and there was nothing going on. I didn't see anyone performing. I saw hardly any costumes. I walked around the boardwalk with Zouzzy and Gabriela instead and went back to the carnival three more times throughout the day and there was still nothing going on. I did take a few pics during the day.

On Sunday, I walked two blocks down the street to Le Merigot Hotel for Wally's 17th Annual Grande Marque Champagne Tasting. This was really cool. It's one of the best wine/food events around. For $150 (charity donation), you get to spend 3 hours sampling really good food from LA's top restaurants including caviar and unlimited oysters (Mmmm) and taste dozens of different champagnes - good champagnes including Cristal, Krug, Dom Perignon, and lots of other good stuff. Well worth it and the best part was that it wasn't that crowded.
