Jamie Morris : Last Days of September : Heather and Jamie
Heather and Jamie
Last Days of September

The summer seems to have gone by really fast. The past couple of weeks have been fun. Last weekend, I got to hang out with my friend Heather who was in town from Seattle. I also saw Rufus Wainwright peform Judy Garland's 1961 Carnegie Hall concert at the Hollywood Bowl along with his mom, his sister, and Judy's daughter Lorna Luft as special guests. I've seen a bunch of (mostly free) movies including The Bourne Ultimatum, Superbad, Into the Wild, The Simpsons Movie and two of my older favorites: Roman Holiday, and Dead Alive. I did some winter clothes shopping this week and got an Elie Tahari jacket and sweater at the big Bloomingdale's sale, another sweater at Barney's New York, and some striped socks at Paul Smith. Now I need some new shoes...

Jamie Morris : Habitat For Humanity : Team Paramount
Team Paramount
Habitat For Humanity

Today I got to skip work and volunteer for Habitat For Humanity with the rest of the Interactive Marketing group at Paramount. We worked at the Vermont Village site at 11120 S. Vermont Avenue, a building that will house 14 families when it's finished later this year. We got to meet one of the families who will be living there - a woman who is taking care of 7 adopted children and a terminally ill family member who are all currently living in a garage. Not being very experienced at construction work, I didn't feel very productive, but I had fun and I did help out. I got to use a miter saw and a table saw and didn't lose any fingers. I also got to climb up some scaffolding and didn't fall off. I think next time I'll volunteer for something a little less dangerous and something I'm good at.

Greek Fest, Vespa Party, Kings Preseason

I've been busy the past couple of weeks. On Saturday Sept. 8th, I went to the L.A. Greek Fest. It wasn't a big festival, but I had lots of good food and drink. Plus I got to hang out with my jewelery selling buddies Alex & Lisa.

Last Saturday our now 5 person Vespa club (me, Geoff, Jen, Les, and Michelle) rode to Vespa of Thousand Oaks for their 1-year anniversary party. The party wasn't that exciting but the ride there was really nice - 43 miles each way for me.

Soccer season is winding down. I went to see the Galaxy vs. Houston match on Sunday and the very injured Galaxy lost of course. I've given up on them for this year, but luckily hockey season is starting up. I've got L.A. Kings season tickets for the second year in a row - slightly better seats this year 10 rows from the glass. Preseason started this week and Dave and I got to go to our first two games of the season. On Saturday, we lost to the Stanley Cup winning Anaheim Ducks 3-2 and on Tuesday, we beat the San Jose Sharks in a penalty shootout after a 5-5 tie.

Kissed by a Pig
Labor Day in Seattle

Besides going to concerts, I also did a little sightseeing in Seattle. I don't remember everywhere I went but I did get some great food at Pike Place Market including sweet salmon jerkey, parma prosciutto, an amandine pastry, and some turkish delight. I also went to the first Starbucks. The piggy featured above is part of the Pigs on Parade exhibition.

Jamie Morris : The Gorge Amphitheatre : Jamie & Isabell in Seattle

The Gorge Amphitheatre

Today, we drove 3 hours east of Seattle to the city of George, Washington to see a concert at The Gorge, one of the most scenic concert venues in North America. The amphitheatre is amazing. We had lawn seats on the hill and had great views of the river, the gorge, and the stage. I wasn't the crazy about the band who was playing three consecutive nights this weekend, Dave Matthews Band, but it was worth it just to check out the venue. The concert wasn't that bad. Dave's voice was off - he said the desert was making him scratchy. The opening act, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, was pretty good. Randolph plays the pedal steel guitar and can play some amazing Hendrix riffs on it. The highlight of the night for me was when Robert Randolph came out during the DMB set and played All Along The Watchtower.

Bumbershoot 2007

I arrived in Seattle last night to spend Labor Day weekend with my friend Isabell. Today we went Bumbershoot, the first day of Seattle's annual music and arts festival at the 74-acre Seattle Center. I saw several bands including Crowded House, The Shins, Gogol Bordello, The Avett Brothers and Lillydale. Also, a storytelling show called The Moth: Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'N' Roll Stories. And a concert posterart show called Flatstock. It was very crowded but the weather was great.
