Jamie Morris : null : Smokey Sunset
Smokey Sunset

The weather was a little weird today. It was 90° here in Santa Monica. I can't remember it ever being that hot here. It was that hot even though you couldn't see the sun over the fog, haze, and smoke from the fires. The sunsets have been kinda neat though.

This weekend I saw a couple movies that were okay: Scary Movie 3 and Bubba Ho-Tep. And I finished a website that I've been working on called Natural Earth Gifts. Check it out if you need any salt rock lamps, candleholders, ammonite jewelry, or even goniatites! They've got it all!

This week is going by too slowly. The MTA is still on strike, so I've been getting rides to work with my co-workers. Yesterday, Steve (my former boss) brought me in on his Harley. That was pretty fun.

I just got a new Nokia 3650 mobile phone and signed up with T-Mobile. It's got a lot of cool features like e-mail, a web browser, camera, video recorder, RealOne player, java applications, games, and it works internationally. So when I go to England next month, I can record a video clip on my phone and e-mail it to you!

Jamie Morris : null : Alex & Lisa
Alex & Lisa

I had a pretty uneventful weekend. I stayed inside most of the time watching soccer and hockey and completely avoided the World Series because I have no interest in watching the Yankees or the Marlins. Speaking of soccer, the cover story of this week's LA City Beat is about how soccer is the fastest growing sport in the country and how Los Angeles has become the American capital for soccer. Last night I went to see Lost In Translation with Bill Murray which is a great movie. Go see it right away. The highlight of my day today was hanging with my pal Alex (the one on the right) and watching The Office.

Jamie Morris : null : The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Nightmare Before Christmas

This week was a scary movie week. Last night, I went to the El Capitan and saw a screening of "The Nightmare Before Christmas" as I do every October. Tim Burton hosted the event this year (the 10th anniversary) and did a Q&A session. Also two of Burton's short films "Vincent" and "Frankenweenie" were screened, a pipe organist played some scary tunes, and I got to see some of the original set pieces and sketches. The tonight, I went to the remake of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." It's not as scary as the original, but more gory.

Jamie Morris : null : Get Back To Work!
Get Back To Work!

Everyone is on strike this week. First it was the grocery store cashiers, which doesn't affect me much because I don't get groceries very often. But today, the MTA went on strike which affects me a lot because I rely on public transportation to get around. Almost all of the busses and subways in Los Angeles are shut down leaving 500,000 people stranded. It took me 2 1/2 hours and $16 to get to work today on a bus and a cab.

Both of these strikes are related to health benefits. Currently the employees get their insurance for free and their employers want them to start contributing to the cost. I have always had to pay for my insurance, so I don't think these people should be striking. They should stop their whining and go back to work, or quit their job and go find a new one. The last time the MTA went on strike it lasted over a month. Hopefully this time they'll be a little smarter and replace all the strikers now and get the busses running.

The only good thing about the MTA strike is that the grocery store workers can't get to the store to picket because the busses are on strike! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Jamie Morris : null : Women's World Cup Final
Women's World Cup Final

The 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup Finals were in here in Carson, California this weekend at the Home Depot Center. I went to see both matches live. On Saturday, the USA beat Canada in the Third Place Match, which was great, but I think everyone was disappointed that they didn't make it to the Final. The Final Match was today between Germany and Sweden. Germany were favored to win, but everyone in the crowd was cheering for Sweden. It turned out to be a great match and was tied 1:1 at the end of 90 minutes. It got sent to sudden death overtime. After eight minutes of extra time, Nia Kuenzer headed in an amazing golden goal to win the match for Germany. The win will knock the United States out of the #1 rank and make Germany the new women's soccer world champions.

It was great having the Women's World Cup here in the USA. I think we got the best deal here in Los Angeles. I got to see 9 different teams from 5 different continents play in the past month: Australia, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Germany, Ghana, Russia, Sweden, and the United States.

I'm looking forward to staying in and watching TV tonight. It's the premiere of the second season of my favorite TV show, The Office on BBC America!

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2003

Tonight I went to see Quentin Tarantino's latest film Kill Bill and it was great. I've been looking forward to this film since I saw Quentin speak at the the Chinese Martial Arts Film Festival in February and I was not disappointed. So go see it now, but be warned: There is a lot of BLOOD!

Here are the current results. I can't believe I live in a state that would elect Arnold Schwarzenegger as governor. I voted against the recall, even though I don't like Gray Davis. I'm not against replacing a governor, I'm against the way the ballot was set up. There should have only been one question like in the original election, not two. The question should be "Who should be governor?" not "Should the governor be recalled?" and "Who should replace him?" I think a majority of people in this state would choose Davis to be governor today, but the way the election is set up, he probably will not win. And that's not right. Just like the last presidental election wasn't right (Gore got 50 million votes, Bush got 49 million).

Jamie Morris : null : Alpine Village Oktoberfest
Alpine Village Oktoberfest

Wow! The Red Sox won both games this weekend. I can't believe it. Today, I went to the Alpine Village Oktoberfest with Erin, Eddie and Ellie. We had some Bratwurst, Sauerkraut, and Alpine Village Hofbrau beer which is brewed here in California under the patronage of Hofbrauhaus in Germany (which I visited last year). Check out the cool beer mug Erin bought me!

October is here and I have decorated my office for Halloween. I also have lots of candy, so come and get some. Tonight I went to see The School Of Rock (the #1 movie in the country) again because it's soooo good. After the movie I went to an art show downtown featuring some really cool artwork by my pal Miner.
